The Association of Proprietors of Private Media Establishment in Nigeria (APPMEN ), a professional body representing and promoting the practice of journalism in Nigeria held its first inaugural lecture under the theme ” Experience in Governance, Sustaining Investor Confidence, and the 2019 General Elections: The Role of the Nigeria Media” in Abuja, yesterday.

Former Country Director, ACTIONAID Nigeria, Dr. Oliver Igbuzor in his presentation highlighted the needs for Nigeria media not to depart from its core duties of promoting social justice, ensuring equity, challenging existing political cultures to force debates.
The twin events not only as part of activities to Investiture the association’s patrons but as well to launch the maiden calendar.
Among eleven illustrious Nigeria personalities honoured with Honorary National Patron includes His Royal Majesty Alh (Dr.) Adamu Baba Yunusa honoured with APPMEN grand patron duly represented by Etsu Kwali, Alhaji Shaban Audu Nizazo (III)
Speaking to Journalists, Comrade Anabah Augustine, former Aso Rock, Presidential Villa , Abuja, among those honoured, called on Nigeria media to shun reporting news that will promote hatred and violence.
Dr. Mrs. Stella Rita Awelle Asogwa, MD. Marcoriano Chinese Restaurant & Zarita Kouture & Academy, one of the recipients stressed why good journalism truly matters and advised journalists, to undertake duties faithfully and professionally.Dr. Asogwa receiving the honour.
The media should ensures that they imbibe the ethics of the professionalism carrying out their duties.
“One of my roles as the Patron of this association is to give advice when needed. The media has a very vital role to play at the upcoming election, to ensure they are factual and fair to all parties involved”, she said
Dr. Asogwa added that it was not enough for media to have flow of information on election activities, but how media covered an election can determine whether it will be successful or otherwise.
