NSUK installs His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Shehu Chindo Yamusa 111, Emir of Keffi as the New Chancellor of the University.
The formal ceremony for the installation of His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Shehu Chindo Yamusa 111, Emir of Keffi as the New Chancellor of the University by His Excellency Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, Executive Governor, Nassarawa State was held at Nassarawa State University, Keffi,an event to mark combined fifth pre-convocation lecture of the University under the theme: “Education and National Security”.
The New Chancellor formally took up the appointment as University Chancellor and will represent the University on special occasions, confer degrees at graduation ceremonies today.
The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of the pre-convocation public lecture by Lt. Gen (Rtd) Abdulrahman Dambazau, Hon. Minister of Interior, (duly represented by Major-General Emmanuel Bassey (rtd)Honourable Commissioner for Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board (CDFIPB). who read the speech on his behalf).
Dambazau, in his lecture, called on leadership of this nation to give high priority to educational sector through adequate funding, to break poverty cycle and build loyal, patriotic and beneficial citizens within the communities and country at large. consequently, caged nation internal conflicts and challenges forever.
He stressed these can only be achieved through adoptation of new type and right education.
Giving overview analysis of how human development indices of Nigeria shows extremely disturbing education and poverty figures that make Nigeria at risk of a new type of internal security challenge which he attributed to lack of education.
” Education can be catalyst.. Consequently, I have sought to place education as a centre of the Internal Security challenges of Nigeria.
Education must be in frontline of our national and Internal Security”, he said.
He went further to emphasis that Education should indeed be first peace action as, the best way to protect the peace after conflict and a need to ensure the right one is impacted.
“The wrong type of education such as the indoctrination of Boko Haram, has fuelled conflict in the past. A new type of education will cage conflict forever. Education must be the frontline of our national and internal security” He restated.
He also seized the occasion to restate the mandate of the Ministry of Interior, “to foster and ensure maintenance of internal security and citizenship intergrity towards the promotion of good governance of the nation”, he stated.
