Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Minister, Dr. Christopher Ogbonnaya Onu today, 8th March 2018 at Abuja, inaugurated a new Governing Council for the institution, with Daniel Donald Onjeh assuming the position of the Chairman of the Research Institute.

Project Development Institute, Enugu (PRODA), National Research Institute was initially established in 1971 by the government of the defunct East Central State, later adopted as one of the parastals under the Federal ministry of Science and Technology in 1977; making it one of the oldest research institutes under the ministry. The institute’s broad mandate is to conduct innovative, cross-cutting research and development on industrial materials and process to pilot plant stages, including engineering design and fabrication.
Comrade Onjeh, while responding on behalf of the other governing board members, appreciated the Mr. President, Muhammadu Buhari for finding him and his team worthy to serve as Chairman/ Governing Council members of the one of the oldest Nigeria Research institute. He failed not to commend the Management and staff of the institute for keeping the ball running despite challenges confronting the institute, however, without Governing Board for past three years while keeping the set mandate.
“My sincere appreciation goes to our able President, Muhammadu Buhari for believing in me and deem it worthy appoint me for this assignment, is a demonstration of this Government’s efforts aim at building strong institutions of Governance, and by extension, improving the quality of Policy formulation and supervision. PRODA has operated without a Governing Board for the past three years, and we must commend the Management and staff of the institute for their tireless efforts at keeping faith with the mandate of the institute against all odds. There are many challenges facing the institute, centered on inadequate funding which is not only peculiar to PRODA. Every parastatal across the three tiers of government in Nigeria, is grasping with the same challenge.”
Ex- President of National Executive Council of NANS, comrade Onjeh went further to pledge to tackle those challenges with head long and reposition the institute under his chairmanship to better sustainable future.
“However, the inauguration today of the governing board of PRODA, under my chairmanship will herald a new dawn at the institute. We will hit the ground running and tinker with policies and programmes of the institute, in order to proffer solutions to its current challenges and reposition the agency in line with its mandate. The Board will also look out for emerging or likely future challenges, and work assiduously to offer- far reaching solutions.”
He also emphasized that despite the challenges faced, the institute was poised to be the cradle for Nigeria’s technological self-reliance as it relates to machinery and equipment design as industrial and consumer appliances research hub and yet provides consultancy and training services for Armed Forces, tertiary institutions, corporate bodies and individuals.
He appreciated the Mr. President for the inauguration of the council and caliber of persons appointed to work with him, a body he acknowledged was crucial for the smooth running of the institute. He charged Nigerians and world at large to expect nothing but positive results from their stewardship at PRODA.
Onjeh gave the assurance on behalf of other Council members that their decision shall be driven by justice, fairness, equity, humanness and fear of God.
“With God on our side, I believe that there is no obstacle impossible to mount.” He quoted.
