FG has been able to Improve Learning Infrastructures, Conducive and Habitable Environments For Learners – Dr. Lami Amodu

 

 

Director of Basic and Secondary Education Department, Dr. Lami Amodu made the remark at the programme organised by The Nigerian National Commission for UNESCO, Federal Ministry of Education (FEM), A day workshop themed: “Strengthening UNESCO NGOS’ Capacity in the Delivery of . Literacy Skills for Development to Combat the Out-of-School Syndrome and Adult Illiteracy in FCT” on Monday in Abuja.

 

 

Dr. Amodu during press interview in her own words, reiterated that the current administration is so determined in addressing all literacy challenges in Nigeria, and , for that purpose so many literacy centers have been built and, many schools recieved infrastructural face-lifts in order to create enabling learning environments that will be not only habitable but conducive for learners.

 

“A lot of Literacy Centers have been springing up in all nooks and crannies of the country. We have also been able to improved infrastructural structures in so many the schools, so that people can find learning environment more habitable and conducive ” she said

 

According to her the Ministry of Education has recorded lots of notable achievements in the area of adult literacy campaigns and, the Ministry has been able to carry out lots of public awareness sensitisation with the support of local traditional rulers, who can advise their community members on the importance of education.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Dr. Ify Ukeigbu, on her good message stated that the federal government has designed a plan to establish Public- Private Sector Collaboration Initiative on SDGs so that promotion of Literacy Education on SDGs agenda can be actualized by the year 2030.

Federal Government of Nigeria and other Stakeholders present wrre able to sieze the opportunities created by the workshop to Brainstorm about “Out of Schools Sydrome and Adult Illiteracy in the Nation”, the progresx and way forward.

One of the core purpose of the workshop was to raise awareness on the need, tools available to stakeholders at all levels through demonstrated models for them to carry out respective- successful literacy skills, and how to influence relevant policies and funding mechanism. All of the purpose to encourage Adult Literacy level particularly in FCT and Nigeria at large.

Dr. Musa Moda, a renowned scholar in Adult and Mass Literacy Education delivered a key note address titled: “Achieving Sustainable Development Goals; The Place and Role of NGOS support as enduring partners to the government” at the event.

 

The highlight of the workshop was the groups interactive session “Technical Session”- where participants divided into different four groups namely; Learning mobilization for Access and Learners Retention/Evaluation; Quality of facilitators/Instruction and Application of ICT & AI for Quality Teaching & Learning; Funding/Resource mobilization Utilization plan; and, Empowering learners for peace and resilience building and preventing violent extremism.

Moderators at the workshop were Dr. Cecilia Powl and Dr. Alice Atteh Abang, both are Adult and Non-Formal Educationists, Mr. Noah Emmanuel, National President, NOGALSS, Abuja and Dr. Olalekan Babatunde, Research Fellow, Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution.

Dignitaries at the workshop were; the Chief Host, Arc. Sonny S.T. Echono (fnia), Permanent Secretary, FME; Mr. Kehinde Ayotunde, Secretary General, NATCOM- UNESCO; Mrs. Christian Ogbede, Director, EPR&D, FME and host of others.
