Korean Cultural Centre Celebrates 2019 World Poetry Day

This year’s poetry day theme: “Independence, Liberty and Freedom” was marked by the Korean Cultural Centre Abuja on Thursday 21st March, which is the world poetry day,

It was a one day poetry clinic/workshop with six FCT schools in attendance.

The schools in attendance are Government Girl’s Secondary School Dutse, Capital Science Academy Kuje, Government Secondary School Nyanya, African Child College Byazhin, Jewel Model School Kubwa and Government Secondary School Gwagwalada.

The Director of the centre Lee Jin, Su in his opening remarks enjoined the students to maximize the opportunity created by the workshop to improve their poetic writing skills.

He cited notable Nigerian Poets like Prof. Wole Shoyinka, Dr. Chinua Achebe and others whose works has gained international recognition.

Two facilitators of the workshop by names Mr. Bashiru Amuneni and Mr. Oma Awe took the student through Tutorials in Poetry and making business out of Poetry.

Mr. Amuneni touched on the meaning of poetry, features of a good poem, and ways to write good poems.

While Mr. Oma Awe took on the business side of poetry which includes making poetry a habit, a hobby and finally dwelt on business organization which includes registration, invoicing and negotiations.

While talking to a cross section of students who gave feedbacks on how the workshop has increased their writing capabilities and business outlook, they said the workshop was highly inspiring and rewarding.

Finally students were tasked to write on the theme for this Year which is a competition among the schools that participated in the workshop.

The winners who emerged will be awarded prizes on April 11th 2019. which is the award giving day.
